The weather has been picture perfect for the past few days and will continue for a while. We need to keep an eye on Earl as it gets closer to where it wants to head. Today the temperature was 84 degrees with a NE blow at 8 to 10 mph. Tomorrow looks like a nice day as well with a temperature of 83 degrees and a NE wind at 8 to 12 mph. The fishing has been good in certain spots and slow in others. The point still has runs of spanish and blues off and on. Pompano, sea mullet, croker, blues and flounder are being caught up and down the surf. The inlet continues to be good for flounder and blues. On the sound side Grey trout has been awesome with catches of flounder, blues, croker and lots of lizards also. Still no speckled trout Bruce but I'm not giving up yet. Come by Dillon's Corner for the freshest bait of your choice on the Island, along with the best selection of rods and reels you will need for the surf or sound. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.

But you only have a few days because of the storm out in the Atlantic. The waves are suppose to reach 10 feet or more by Tuesday. Tight lines and Good luck!

May 26th,Hope you are having a great day. We are looking for a beautiful Memorial Day weekend so come on down and catch some of these elusive fish. For the small boaters there are plenty of blues and spanish in the inlet. Most of the ones we caught was on a clark spoon and a number 1 planer. There are cobia around but they have mostly moved off Portsmouth Island.
Beach fishing has been scattered puffers ,blues sea mullet, black drum and puppy drum, so you should be able to find something to fish for, if not just come down and enjoty the beach.
They have closed the point because of the birds but you can use ramps 43, 38 49,34 55 and 30. So we can still get to the ocean and there are plenty of spots to fish and drive your vehicle too.
Also there are spanish on ramp 55.
Stay safe and think of us

May 13th,Justin and Brad Faircloth along with Steve Eubanks of Burlington NC. caught lots of bluefish near the point in Buxton , so far the point is still open. They have closed the ramps near Salvo because two birds looked at each other. I can not believe the stupity of some folks, like the ones that sit in some small cubicle somewhere and determines if we can use our beaches or not.Does anyone care about the rights of the people any more.

This is not about ORV driving you will not be able to walk on the beaches either. Please do this the clock is ticking. Dare Co. is behind this all the way. Still contact yo000ur senators and congressmen while they are running scared of the next election. If you go back a few fishing reports you may find the phone numbers of some of these fools. Most were caught on the glass minnows.  The same thing yesterday at the pier buit they were the small ones.

Everyone have a great day and take a kid fishing. Also please keep the folks that are in the area of the oil disaster in your prayers.

I attended one of the workshop meetings in Buxton about beach access on Tuesday Apr. 13. The Draft Environmental Impact Statement did not sound encouraging at all. Comment may be submitted electronically on line at the Planning, Environment and Public comment at website at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/caha click on: Open for Comment, click on: Off-Road Vehicle Management Plan/EIS, click on: Comment on Document. Written comments, i.e. letters may be sent via the US Postal Service to: Mike Murry, Superintendent - Cape Hatteras National Seashore- 1401 National Park Drive-Manteo, NC 27954. You can also go to Island free Press.com and get information about how you can help keep our beaches. The workshop metting was very informative and well planned. Thanks to all of you who spoke at the meeting you did a great job. Also thanks for the many hours that was spent working on our beach access. Thanks to the NCBBA, OBPA, and the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club for all of your hard work. We will not give in to the currupt system that the Audubon and National Park Service is trying to force on us.If there are any animal activist out there we would like to hear from you about all of our foxes, possums, cats, racoons and no telling what else that have been killed to protect a hand full of birds. Please contact your Congressman or any politician that can help us keep our freedom on the OBX. The economy here is suffering from the stunts that are being pulled. It used to be For the People, by the People of the People but its not that way anymore its For the Goverment by the Goverment of the Goverment. I could go on and on but its time for me to get back to work. Stop in and see us at Dillon's Corner for all of your fishing supplies and more. Have a nice day and even better tomorrow.

Thanks to the OBPA, NCBBA, and the Cape Hatteras anglers club for all the hard work you have done to protect our freedom on the Outer Banxs. I ask everyone to make your comments and let your voice be heard to the Politicans that you think can help us keep our rights here. We would like to be treated at least half as good as the Piping Plovers that they say are here, I've never seen one and we have no one to represent us to say there are. Stop in and see us at Dillon's Corner for updates as things progress.  Have a nice day and even better tomorrow.

Feb.23,
Today we have overcast skies with a few scattered showers expected. The water temps.38 to 41 .That is why there are no fish in the surf.We need water temps to reach mid to high 50's for the bait to return to the shore line,so the other fish return until that happens we don't expect the fishing to be any good.Off shore there were some blue fin tuna caught Sunday.Sonny and his buds caught 105 lbs blue on Trafton's boat. And there were other boats that caught blues, yellow, and blackfin. There were also some grouper caught sunday.
 Tight lines and Good luck!

The puppy drum bite here has been awesome for Hatteras Island as a whole. I've heard of fish being caught from Rodanthe to Hatteras.  There have also been some stripers and speckled trout caught up and down the surf. So if you want a peice of the pie come on down while its hot. The weather has been good with a temperature of 54 degrees today and calm winds. Tomorrow will be warmer with a temperature of 63 degrees but strong winds out of the SSW at 20 MPH gusting to 35. It's sure beats the 30's with high wind we've had lately. Robert with his striper 28 pounder. Well today is just like all week with plenty of puppy drum on the beach. High of 58 today a little nicer for the fisherman. Lots of folks coming in it seems. My neice just called and she is coming down with some friends. So it looks like a Pops night You folks come on down should be a great weekend ollie
Tyler, with his 5 pound spec.
Jan 14th, Robert Earl of Buxton just brought a 28 pound striper in to be weighed. We took some pics that will be on here later we are having a problem with our computer and pics. Also want you to see Tyler's pic with his spec. The weather is getting warmer and we expect some folks here this weekend. I know some of my friends they were bring their girlfriends and others down this weekend so at least it will be a goodtime for all.
Jay was on the beach this mornig with robt and they said that everyone had their limit of puppy drum and he saw about 4 other stripers caught. When the waves would roll in all you could see was fish rolling on top of the waves. Folks it does not get any better than this so drop what you are doing and come on down. Will look forward to seeing you.

If your not here fishing you're missing a good time.Tight lines and Good luck!!

Jan 12th, Still chilly and the fish are still hitting. This is as good as it gets here with the puppies and a few specs. Talking with Jam this afternoon he was saying as many as a couple of hundred pups were caught with most being released but a couple have already tasted pretty good. I just left Frisco pier and there was quite a few fishermen there but I did not see a fish but I think the water was not high enough yet. Give it about another hour and they will be back.
Have a great day and come down to see us.

Jan 11th, Hope everyone is surviving the cold. The fishing here today has been great today like it has the last several days with puppy drum from frisco pier to hatteras ramp 55. There also have been some specs biting today for several days specs were caught but a lot were snagged. The temp of the water in the sound is so cold that the specs are coming to the beach for a little warmer water. Anyway it is giving us something to do. There have been reports of some specs just getting so cold they are floating up and folks are dipping them out in nets.
We are building some nice rods this winter trying to get ahead for the sping so if you are interested please give us a call and we can put one on order for. 252-995-5083

There have been a couple of stripers caught today north of the point. Also puppy drum and speckled trout are being caught up and down the surf. It's been pretty cold with a temperature of 30 degrees and a NW wind at 10 MPH. Tomorrow will be a little warmer at 38 degrees and a north wind at 20 MPH gusting up to 30. Monday looks like a good day for fishing if the forcast holds. One of the stripers was caught on squid by a fisherman who stopped by to show us. It hit the scales at 26 pounds and was 38 inches long it sure gave me the fever to get out there tomorrow. Stop in and see us at Dillon's Corner for all of your fishing needs. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.

Jan 06, The puppy drum and some speckled trout were  hitting at the frisco pier this am which one person came in and said they were slaying them. The only thing i can tell you is I did see the one in his cooler so they are nice fish.
Also talked with someone who reminded me that when we have a cool spell this long like we have now that the stripers when this breaks usually hit the south beach real well,so we may be in to some good fishing coming up.
On my way to Raleigh to the Tackle show tomorrow am hope to see some of you there .Will be there thur and fri will head back sat am. Be safe and think about us if you can't come down for a visit just give us a call.

Tomorrow is expected to be 82 degrees with a SW wind 17 MPH gusting up to 30. It has been pretty hard to hold bottom on the surf with the wind. The sound side has had waves 2 to 3 feet which also makes it hard to fish. There have been bluefish, sea mullet, pompano and a few puppy drum caught in the surf along with spanish on metal. We could see the wind in our favor after tomorrow hopefully. Keep the spirit and get ready for some great fishing. Sept 25, Gov. Perdue is here today along with Senator Basnight to discuss windpower in our sounds. Personally I think it would be a great idea with all the wind we have here. It would also help fishing by putting the structures in the sound.
As Jay reported yesterday there was great fishing both bluefish and drum Talked with several groups yesterday that had plenty of fun and fish. There were some spanish taken because the water had cleared up So come on down this weekend and take advantage of this great weather and fishing while it last.     A cold front entered the Outer Banks today with temperatures in the 70's and a strong NE wind at 20 to 30 MPH. It looks like it will continue tomorrow making it hard to fish the surf. The fishing has been pretty slow today with the brisk winds. The sound side has also been hard to fish with high waves. With little humidity and a big temperature change with strong winds the fish will probably take a break until we get a favorable wind change. Hopefully Thursday will bring what we need to get the fish bite back. I have only heard of skates being caught today up and down the surf. Make a stop by Dillon's corner and you will find a great selection of everthing that will make your fishing trip successful. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.

It is strange that if you leave Buxton to the north that there are bird closures all up on the ocean side of the road but none where the wind and kite boarders are I guess the birds are not allowed to cross the road by the park service

Today the wind stopped and 3 or more people fell down they had been accustomed to leaning into the wind so long. It is so nice for the wind not to blow

May 5th,  Yesterday it was blowing with gust up to 40 mph and it seemed like all day. But there were some hardy souls out there talked with a few folks that had some puppy drum a few nice blues and a few sea mullet. Larry who works here had a few sea mullet and some small flounder this am but he was caught in a rain shower and had to give it up. If he is out there now he has been caught in another one. It is pouring down and the radio uis reporting maybe some hail in these storms and bad lightning. Seems to be a good time to clean your equipment and organize your tackle box.

Today was a pretty nice day except for the wind  gusting at over 20 mph at times. The temperature was 72 degrees and mostly sunny. Tomorrow the temperature will be around 75 degrees with a sw wind at 18 mph gusting to 25 mph. We will have all the results on the fishing tournament that took place on Ocracoke Island tomorrow. Here on Hatteras Island the fishing was fair and getting better by the day. The catch was sea mullet, blues, flounder, red fish, blow toads and sharks. Its time for the big boys to show up including speckled trout and big flounder. Have a great day and even better tomorrow. Stop by Dillon's Corner for all your needs and great conversation.

MAY 1 First off an update of the Ocracoke Tournament. A 50 inch drum was caught along with a bunch of big blues. The Hatteraskals are currently in first place with Team Daiwa close behind. Winds currently sw at 14-20 mph.

April 30, Lots of sea mullet scattered around ramp 38, 34 also talked Anna who had plenty of sea mullet and some puffers.Plenty of sharks and skates. There are big schools of drum and spanish off of Ocracoke.Kyle Perry of Buxton had five releases of drum in the sound.Talked with two net fishermen today that told us they had spanish in their nets along with blues and some trout which means the water is warming up in the sound. One said that he fished around Olivers Light and the water temp was 74 which is quite a difference from the 64 he had the other day.
There is a tournament on ocracoke today and tomorrow that might be good fishing because of the schools of spanish and drum that have been spotted.
Today the wind is e se but tomorrow the wind should turn sw and blow a little harder which may bring the drum in a Hatteras inlet and also to the beaches on Ocracoke.
Megan from the Coastland Times is at the tournament hopefully shae will get something good to report to us at Pops.
They are still getting the larger drum at Hatteras Inlet so you need to come on down and throw some nice fresh bait out and catch some of these big ones

Apr 28, It's a beautiful day on the outer banks and we did get some big fish yesterday evening. Kevin Mccabe landed and released a 42 inch drum and he saw another one about 48 inches caught on the point that they had to walk to get to. Also talked with a fellow that had a 24 in bluefish and several others that were smaller. Lots of the sharks and skates also. Another thing you may want to be careful of on of our park services finest threated someone yesterday that cleaned his sea mullet that he caught and threw the heads to the seagull and was told he will give him a ticket of 175.00 dollars the next time. Isn't it lovely living with our government today.

Today should be a good day on the surf with the wind out of the south west.Yesterday the bites were slow but there were a few. Most on blood worms and shrimp.Sea mullet and blow toad were the best bite with a few blues in the afternoon is what a fisherman from Virginia said. But he caught more shark than anything. The surf has been rough but is suppose to calm some.We shall see.We have fresh menhaden, shrimp, and finger mullet,we also have blood worms, for off shore we now have ballyhoo, and for  pond fishing for the kids we have nightcrawlers. There are some nice bass in some of the ponds. So stop in and see us .Tight Lines and Good Luck!

Tony Gifford of henderson ville NC and Randy Kessler of Mnt. Home NC caught these red drum a 25" and a 30 plus"s with rod he purchased here at dillons corner.
April 18,The wind supposedly is going southwest today or tonight which will help our fishing. It has been out of the north all week that has kept the water temps low which has killed most of the fishing. With a southwest wind the temps will warm up and the bait fish will come to the beach and the larger fish will follow.
This coming sat. the 4plus tournament will be here so hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will have some good fishing. So if you have not signed up you may still have the opportunity to do so
Good fishing

Apr 15, GOOD NEWS BAD NEWS,The good , the point is open The Bad,you can't get to it, One of our upstanding audubon citizens spotted two oyster catchers dancing around each other so they have closed access to the point. Can you believe this horsecrap. They were in the high dunes but they closed the way to the point anyway. I did find out that you can walk to the point as long as you stay below the low tide lineand from what I understand it is hard to prove where the lowtide line is so if anyone is a lawyer it would be a great time for you to fight these assholes. They cannot prove where the lowtide line is. Anyway there are still plenty of other places to fish but why do they wait until we have a good drum bite to pull this crap I guess they are doing it just because they can.

Mar 31, The weather is beautiful temps in the 70's and sunny with a south west wind that is pushing the warm water in to shore. We can almost hear the fish swimming to shore. So come on down before the birds do and relax and catch a few of our elusive fish. Ocracoke is beginning to catch some of the larger drum so you know they are coming our way. So you come our way too.

Mar. 29,
Today is the last day too get scallops.Season ends April 1st. The wind is strong gusting to 30 mph.But it is out of the south so it should warm the water before it turns. There 's a rumor a big drum was caught at the point yesterday but I haven't confirmed it yet.I also heard the gulf stream was only 5 miles off the beach. So that will raise the water temps.

Mar 26 afternoon, Just talked with Tall Bill this am about water temps. He said they have moved the NOAA temp buoy near the wreck of the Monitor which is a little south of us and that the water temp is 72 which means all we need is some good southwest winds to bring in the bait to entice the big fish to the beach hopefully this will happen soon. Damn this has been a cold winter and the spring is proving to be as cold. Glad I'm not coaching baseball in this weather

Mar 22, Well someone finally got a striper off the point the other day that weighrd in at 23 pounds but I wonder if the ticket the fisherman got for not having a license was worth it. Also day before yesterday there was a 7 pound trout taken in the sound. Water temps are beginning to warm some so the fishing is sure to pick up come on down for a long weekend or at least call us

Todays weather was not the best with a temperature of 51 degrees and a NE wind at 18 mph. gusting up to 30 mph. Tomorrow looks like a repeat with 52 degrees and 18 mph. winds gusting at 30 mph. again. Saturdays forcast has it at low 50's with low winds. Sunday looks like a great day with 70's and 10 to 15 mph winds. The fishing is still slow with a few reports of puppy drum being caught at Ocracoke and Hatteras Inlet. It looks like the beaches will start closing again when the first piping plover leaves Africa. What a joke to waste such beatiful beaches and access for the tax payers and locals who have been here for generations. Have a great day and take care. See you at Dillon's Corner when you get here.

I did see two puppy drum caught at the lighthouse site, both keepers. One was caught on fresh shrimp, the other on mullet. It was to rough to cast jigs today with the strong current and high winds. We need a break from rain and rough surf. Over 15 inches of rain fell in November alone. Have a great day and even better tomorrow. Stop and see us at Dillon's Corner.

Today the rain continued to fall most of the day. For those who braved it caught some puppy drum and speckled trout by the pier in Avon, and by the lighthouse site in Buxton. The weather tomorrow is looking better, so the puppy drum and speck bite should continue. You can't catch them at the kitchen table, so come on down and have some fun. Stop by Dillon's Corner for all your gear and baits.

Stripers are being caught but it's slow. Any day now the stripers should show up,the weather has been favorable for the big show. So Charles Wilder you've been warned. Stop by Dillon's Corner for all your needs. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. Happy Holidays.

September 23,

Red Drum and blues have been caught on the South Beach.  However, the northeast winds are picking up and fishing will continue to decline over the next few days.  The weather forecast is still uncertain but with a low developing and a tropical system possibly developing, we do not know how things are going to be in the next few days.  We do have fresh bait and will be here if you want to call us.

Sepy. 19, There was a pretty good spanich bite this am on the south beach Also there were some small blues mixed in with them but the wind has picked up considerbly so fishing this afternoon is going to be rough. Wind now is gusting up to 30mph. There is a small craft warning up and we think this may continue until tomorrow. It is a beautifil day other than the high winds.
Talked with Mark Thompson of Algiers NC this morning and he was talking about yesterday doing well on seamullet and small blues on the south beach. You can catch fish today but the best place to be is the south beach because the wind is coming out of the north another good place would be ramp 55 at the ferry docks and north of there towards the inlet where the wind will be to your back. Tomorrow if you are coming down and it is still windy we are having right behind Dillon's Corner live music and surf films all day until midnight. Come on down and drop some cash proceeds will go towards the legal fees to try and get the beaches open again like they should be.
You will be interested in this if you are concerned about the beaches. A democratic senator from one of the mountain states who voted against reopening the beaches now has seen the light because a private group now is suing the NPS to close their mouintain to snow mobiling. I guess it huryts when it's in your own backyard. Anyway he has said if we could get this back up before the senate he and another democrate would change their votes in favor of reopening. Isn't amazing how politicians work.

July 7, There were a lot of upset people here this weekend about the driving being so restricted. But they all said they would return next year. They also said they would call their representatives to complain and try to get them to back Senate Bill 3113 and House Bill 6233 also I guess you know that Toyota gave 20,000,000 to tha Audobon Society. I have emailed Toyota and told them what I thought Hopefully others will do this and tell them you were thinking of buying a Toyota but since they gave monies to help to stop beach driving you are shopping elsewhere.

The good ole days
This is Jay and Shannon winners of the last hermit crab races.
Jun 29, Not a lot to report it seems like the sw winds are here to stay which is good in away because it keeps the smoke from the forest fire away from us so if its smoky where you are come on down. Have not heard of too many fish but if the wind would shift and clean the water up it is looking promising for the holiday weekend. So pack up the kids and come on down.

June,20- Well, it's been a flounder day on Hatteras Island and the pounds are getting heavier. Catches today are 4 flounder and their weights being 15 1/2 lbs, two weighing 16 lbs, and one 18 pounder. Seems to be a good day out fishing. Weather for the day has just been announced for a sever thunderstorm for all of Dare County, so fishermen, keep an ear on that. wind today seems to blowing South/south west at 14 mph. Have a great day and good luck on the catch.
